Featured Artists: Alice Berman and Mariko Savitt

Mermapillar was founded by childhood friends Alice Berman and Mariko Savitt. Alice’s background in graphic design and her love for drawing quirky, nervous little critters, combined with Mariko’s background in business helped to form the hip and eco-conscious infant apparel and accessories line.

The story of Mermapillar began with a drawing Alice made of a shrimp before she and Mariko started the company. As a long-time server in a local restaurant, Alice would often draw little animals on her regular's checks. She showed a shrimp she had drawn one day to Mariko to hear her reaction. Since not many of Alice’s drawings are anatomically correct, Mariko teased her that it looked like a caterpillar with a mermaid tail. She called it a "Mermapillar" and the name stuck. All of Mermapillar’s products are locally made from eco-friendly materials that are sourced and produced in the USA.
