Designers: Aleiya Olu

Aleiya Lindsey-Olu (b. 1988; Detroit, Michigan) is an emerging designer and founder of From Us To You—a contemporary design studio exploring the cross-section of functionality and artistic practice. A native of Detroit, Aleiya has long kept a finger on the creative pulse of the city, even during her time elsewhere.

After moving back to Detroit in 2011, Aleiya landed in Eastern Market, home to one of the country’s oldest farmer’s markets still influenced by its legacy of artisanship and makers. In response to Detroit’s cultural blueprint, Aleiya embarked on a self-study of industrial design and ergonomics. Aleiya’s resulting works channel inspiration from city life, intuitively mirroring the familiarity of intimate spaces within meaningful design objects. As the co-founder of Olu & Company, an arts marketing and public relations agency, and co-organizer of Detroit Art Week, Aleiya has played a key role in the development and story-telling of many emerging and mid-career artists. Aleiya also recently opened Periodicals, a magazine store and concept shop, Periodicals, that marries her love of design with her reverence for print media.
