Pavilionesque is an art magazine created by Paulina Ołowska, dedicated to various aspects of modern art and theatre. It also constitutes a form of an active archive, which searches for and retrieves unpublished archived materials connected to theatre, performance and puppeteering: documentation, photographs and texts.
Pavilionesque III focuses on the extraordinary nature of grotesque and its transformations, in a broad sense. The publication includes texts about works of artists such as Kazimierz Mikulski, Valeska Gert, Roland Topor, Eva Švankmajerová czy Edward Kienholz, followed by interviews, discursive texts and Marta Kudelska’s grotesque novel, inspired by Alex Urban’s work. Pavilionesque III presents Jamian Juliano-Villani, Bogdan Zimowski, Jill Mulleady, Irina Ionesco, Tori Wrånes and Dominika Olszowy.
The magazine Pavilionesque III was developed in cooperation with Walker Art Center and Akademie výtvarných umění in Prague. Made on the occasion of the exhibition "The Paradox of Stillness: Art, Object, and Performance" at the Walker Art Center and Paulina Olowska’s guest teaching at The Studio of Visiting Artists at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The magazine was supported by the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague within the Specific Research Programme 2020, financed by the Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports.
