The GREAT MUSEUMS® Television program “Walker Art Center: Creative Catalyst” was broadcasted nationally on PBS stations as part of 2006 America’s Year of the Museum, a celebration of America’s museum world coinciding with the centennial year of the American Association of Museums (AAM).

“Walker Art Center: Creative Catalyst,” featuring interviews with Walker Director Kathy Halbreich, artist Chuck Close, and choreographer Bill T. Jones, among others, illuminates the Walker’s mission to commission and present pioneering contemporary art; foster collaboration among visual, performing, and media artists; and engage diverse audiences in the excitement of the creative process.

GREAT MUSEUMS® is an ongoing award-winning series of weekly programs airing coast to coast on public television stations. Each episode features interviews with a museum’s own experts—curators, archivists, scientists, artists—to tell each institution’s unique story. Scheduled for broadcast this fall, in addition to the Walker program, are episodes on the Boston Children’s Museum and the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Past episodes have featured the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, DC; and the Field Museum, Chicago.
